Meet Jake
Jake Marsing is a fourth-generation Longmonster who grew up in a working-class family in North Longmont. His roots in this community run deep, shaped by the values of hard work and resilience.
Now, raising his own family in Longmont, Jake is committed to building a community where every resident has the opportunity to succeed.
Jake spent his life fighting for working families like his.
Growing up in a diverse, low-income neighborhood in north Longmont, Jake knew from a young age what it meant to work for everything you had. After divorcing when he was three, his parents did what they could to get by. His mom worked jobs in healthcare, marketing, and even early mornings at the YMCA to give her son every opportunity to succeed.
His Dad, a Longmont police officer with 14 years of dedicated service to the community, taught him what it meant to work hard and serve this city. Growing up, he developed a deep respect for Longmont’s history, listening to stories from his grandmother about the ways the community had changed and grown since her childhood in the 40’s and 50’s.
He learned about Longmont’s working-class roots and the way this city had been founded as a community by working people, for working people.
At his core, Jake is an advocate.
For the last decade, Jake has been a leading advocate in the progressive community on issues ranging from homelessness and affordable housing to education and sustainability, fighting for progressive candidates and causes.
In 2018, Jake went to the State Capitol to continue advocating for working families in Longmont and eastern Boulder County, serving as a legislative aide for Sen. Mike Foote.
After leaving the legislature, he went back to school to get his master's degree and become a teacher. Now in his fourth year teaching in a St. Vrain Valley High School, Jake works every day to ensure his students feel supported both in and out of the classroom.
Jake’s most important role is as a husband and father.
In 2021, he married his amazing wife Becca, a fellow Longmont native. Now raising their family in the city they love, Jake and Becca know what it’s like to pay skyrocketing costs of childcare, housing, and other basics.
That’s why he’s committed to creative solutions that will lower costs on things like utilities and early childhood education for working families, solutions that will truly build a Longmont for Everybody.
Jake Marsing is running for City Council to be a voice for working-class families in our community.
He’ll fight for those who need representation and strong leadership on council, ready to tackle Longmont’s most pressing challenges.
As your City Council member, he’ll lead the fight to reduce the cost of early childhood education for working families, champion sustainable growth that protects what makes Longmont special, and be a tireless voice for those who too often have been forgotten or left behind in our community.
Jake will always be available to you, so feel free to get in touch with him by contacting him at jake@jakemarsing.com or giving him a call or text on his cell phone at 303-775-6376.
